Code Tip: A “straight” answer for an ortho tip.

How should you report a lost or broken retainer?  First make sure the clinical note states that the patient lost or broke the retainer.  D8692 is the code to use in this situation with a narrative that details the retainer (age, brand, type) and the reason for breakage or loss.  Also you may include the amount of time patient is expected to wear the retainer.
