How eAssist Changed My Life – Laurie Edler

laurie-eThink… a single mom working 12 hour shifts with an hour long commute.  I was topped out in pay at the practice that I loved and had been working at for over 10 years. But… I needed a change. I loved dental billing; I love dental, period. I loved my office, they were my other family but the one thing that meant the most to me was getting the least amount of my attention daily, my son. Even though I wasn’t financially struggling, my son was being taken care of and my beloved golden retriever “Clyders” was SO happy to see us at the end of a long day, I knew there was something else out there for me. I was job searching on a rainy fall day, because what else is there to do? I was scrolling through Monster.com, clicked on the link that informed me I had to be on a desktop. When I got to a desktop I could not find the listing again. I knew it was a scam- too good to be true, so I googled it. It popped right up! eAssist- Dental Billing from home!

I spent 4 hours taking the test on my day off, phone calls from my family as I was hours late for dinner and questions and comments like, ” Laurie, if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck” .. “now come on- please get over here for dinner.” It’s too good to be true honey.” I finished the tests and I made it to dinner. I waited. Weeks went by, time was passing, life was passing as I worked another 14 hour day. I emailed eAssist to follow up, the next day my phone rang, it was Sandy. I pinched myself. I could not wait to share the news with my son and my family and friends. I knew things would not progress as quickly as I had hoped but my foot was in the door.

As I put my son to bed that night, I told him the changes that were ahead- I told him it may be hard before it got easier as I would be working 2 jobs for a while until I could prove who I was, and I did. The struggle was real. Late nights at the practice. Commute. Homework. Feed the dog. Bath. Brush teeth. Read a nighttime book. Then open up my laptop and work the second job for 6 months. But- now 3 years later- it has paid off. I have attended all my sons’ activities. I have taken vacations and weekend getaways. I have volunteered. I do not have to rely on my family to help raise my son. It is now time just spent with him. I have walked “Clyders” in the middle of the day. No more morning commute, no more asking for time off hoping someone can cover and not be upset with me, no more top out in pay, and no more wishing it wasn’t Monday. My uniform is now my favorite yoga pants and hoodie. I love my job. I have met some of the most amazing people through eAssist. I have learned so much and truly gained some of the best wholesome friends. I do not have to talk to them or see them every day, but we support each other and we listen to one another. We learn and we trust- because we have to and we want to. Most of all, we have been taught to. Because someone on the other side of my laptop- trusted me, trusted us. And I am so glad they did because I have been given the chance of a lifetime that many dream of… Working from home, in the field I love, with my favorite voice not far away..

Dreams really do come true!
