Marcie’s Mindfulness Moment | Who do you want TO BE today?
I recently had the pleasure of spending a weekend with some of our Alliance Partners with the Speaking Consulting Network and was amazed by their openness and willingness to help each other. There were world class, accomplished speakers, highly recognized and influential consultants, corporate executives, and super shiny new products; but the element that captured most of my attention was how mindfulness and awareness were incorporated into their days. I did a happy dance knowing that those influential in the culture of dentistry are incorporating this human element into their education and expansiveness. One speaker that resonated with me was Mary Fox, licensed mental health counselor and board-certified coach. Mary’s message was a reflection on how busy our lives are and how we are focused on our “To Do Lists”. She posed the question- who keeps a “To Be List”? I must be honest, I have an extensive list of tasks, but have never pondered preparing a list of “To Bes” for the day. Mary challenged us to start our day and continue our focus on being mindful of how we want to be and the tasks of doing will naturally align into place. This struck me like lightening- an epiphany of sorts- and I think it’s brilliant! I’ve been trying to start my days with this different mindset this past week and my focus has been on being approachable, helpful, diligent, decisive. Not surprisingly, and as promised, my tasks have become easier, clearer, and faster to complete. My relationship with my “To Do List” is definitely more positive, my tasks seem more attainable, and my outlook seems more synergistic. I encourage you to try this out and let us know how it goes!
